Chad M Sanderson Architect is a single person architecture firm that specializes in traditional residential and smaller commercial projects. After 28 years practicing architecture in the Pacific NW on large commercial, industrial and residential projects, I decided to go out on my own. Alot of architecture firms avoid small projects because it isn't profitable. I missed the discussions and interaction with clients and their project ideas. Close collaboration with a client is the best way to create a great building.
It is often thought that you only hire an architect for large projects. The opposite is true. From a design standpoint, the smaller the project, the more important it is to have a designer. Unlike larger projects - its alot tougher to create a small space that meets all of the project goals. When working with me, your project won't be handed off to someone after you sign a contract. The person that designs the project will be the same one who does the drawings and works with you during construction. In addition, I can perform most of the structural engineering, as long as the project follows certain restrictions. Over the course of the project this saves time, money and creates better building
After graduating from Virginia Tech, I moved to Portland and have practiced architecture here ever since. I was lucky enough to work with an array of talented architects along the way with several different firms. These include SERA Architects, Clark/Kjos Architects, and MWA Architects. After building just about every type of structure imaginable, I have found smaller jobs are more personal and rewarding.
